" I need to know what comes before so I can break the rules"
Vera was determined to have a career as a competitive Figure Skater., when her 1968 Olympic dreams were cut short. She channelled the grace and discipline she learned on the skating rink into a whole new field - fashion!
At just 23 she became the youngest senior editor at Vogue magazine. After 2 decades supporting design icons, she made a career move that rewrote the rules on bridal wear. Inspired by her own frustrating search for something other than a flouncy princess frock for her wedding, the 40-year-old set out to fill a serious gap in the market.
Her market was soon-to-be-brides looking for chic modern gowns. She didn't know that 'bridal' came with a stigma attached which cost her status in the fashion world at that time.
Now, over 25 years later she is one of the best-known names worldwide in the business. She drew on classic elements, constantly refining the traditions with daringly constructed, asymmetrical, and colourful styles.
Today, Vera's pioneering label is synonymous with luxe couture weddings and gorgeous gowns worn by the most famous people in the world.
Now she is venturing out with ready to wear apparel, jewellery, housewares and stationery.
